         PASADENA, Calif. --The No. 2 College Football Playoff (CFP)-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, champion of the Big 12 Conference, and the No. 3 CFP-ranked Georgia Bulldogs, champion of the South Eastern Conference (SEC), have been selected to play in the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual at 1 p.m. Pacific Time, on January 1, 2018, at the Rose Bowl Stadium. “The Tournament of Roses is excited to host Oklahoma and Georgia at this year’s Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game,” said Rose Bowl Management Committee Chairperson Scott Jenkins. “The opportunity to host two of the top teams in the country will make for a thrilling game. We are pleased to welcome the teams and the fans from both schools to the Granddaddy of Them All.”

Monterey Park is seeking two residents to fill open seats on the five-member Personnel Board which oversees job classifications and appeals on employee disciplinary actions. Members of the board are appointed by the city council for a four-year term and can be reappointed for additional terms.

  By Chuck Lyons                                                                  Thousands of people celebrated America’s birthday on Independence Day, July 4, 2017 in Rosemead. 

  The parade, with six more entries than last year, started at 10 a.m. along Valley Boulevard near Walnut Grove Avenue, traveled past Rosemead City Hall and Civic Center Plaza, then north on Loma Avenue to Rosemead Park.

  Activities during the day at Rosemead Park included food booths, rides, games and music, followed by the free fireworks show at 9 p.m.

  Schurr High School girls varsity water polo team will open California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section (CIFSS) Division 2 playoffs at home.

  Schurr will host Bonita on Wednesday, Feb.15, 2017, starting at 5 p.m. and the winner will play on Feb. 18, against the winner of host La Canada and Dana Hills at a time to be announced.
