Dozens of elderly residents will be forced to make alternative housing arrangements after their retirement community, The Alhambra, shuts down on September 1. The residential community has faced financial hardship since the economy soured and has seen a $1 million decline in revenue per year, according to an article published in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Limited interest by members of Alhambra's large Asian population to live in the residential community also contributed to the decision to close the residential community, according to the article. The 127-unit retiring home will be converted to a multi-family residential community in order to attract a younger demographic, according to the article.
