Read the following for a list of events in downtown Alhambra, official city-sponsored activities and local chamber of commerce meetings.
1. Friday, August 12th and 19th (Meets weekly on Fridays): Free Landlord/Tenant Counseling by the Housing Rights Center from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Alhambra Civic Center Library at 101 S. First St., Alhambra
Boasting lessons on landlord-tenant rights as Alhambra's Walk-In Clinic, the Housing Rights Center's mission is to vigilantly shoulder and foster fair housing through education and bolstering to the finish line that amidst discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, familial status, disability, age, source of income and other characteristics protected by law, not one person should be subject to any of the aforementioned narrow-mindedness. Additionally, the Housing Rights Center is geared and primed to answer any and all questions about fair housing, security deposits, repairs, and rent increases. Meet at the Alhambra Civic Center Library at 101 S. First St., Alhambra every Friday of each month.
2. USDA-Sponsored Summer Lunch Program and Recreational Activities
Alhambra, Almansor, Granada, and Story Park are home to the USDA-Sponsored Summer Lunch Program for children aged 1 year to 18 years. Although lunches and snacks will be provided free of charge, arts and crafts sessions have limited supplies and materials and are available based on a first-come, first-serve basis. From Monday, June 20th through Friday, August 26th, meals will be provided gratis accompanied by complimentary arts and crafts classes from the Alhambra Park to Story Park. 3. Joslyn Adult Center Improvements
The onset of late summer bespoke near completion of the Joslyn Adult Recreation Center renovations and a forthcoming reopening. Meanwhile, the Senior Outings Program continues to offer seniors day trips to Southern California's favorite scenic sites and Senior Lunch is held at two sites:

Adult Golf Instruction
Need to sharpen and hone your golf finesse? Look no further, and sign up for a class at the Alhambra Municipal Golf Course. For those all ears and yearning proper golf instruction, it's not behind schedule to reserve a spot on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, or Sundays because new beginners classes get underway each month.
Classes are available: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturdays, 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.Sundays, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Junior Golf Instruction
Junior Golf classes are offered to youth 7 to 17 years of age for a total of 4 sessions per four-week period (student to teacher ratio 6:1).

Saturday, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m.
5. Saturdays in August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th: Second Annual Alhambra Hot Spot (FREE) at 12:00 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Location: Corner of Main and Garfield in front of the Edwards Renaissance Theater
Kicking off on August 6th at noon will be the Second Annual Alhambra Hot Spot - the free family-fun event series lasting through the last Saturday of August. Not only will there be an exhibition of bands, but also an introduction of up-and-coming bands in the San Gabriel Valley. On the first Saturday, August 6th, Marini Music will raffle off a Dean EVO 1000 electric guitar (winner will be announced at 4:00 p.m.), followed by a performance by The Spazmatics at 5:00 p.m. By playing host to not one but 4 all-encompassing family-oriented events, the Second Annual Alhambra Hot Spot on August 13th will shine a spotlight on the featured theme of fashion and the manifestation of fashion from different ends of the style spectrum through the medium of fashion shows.
6. Wednesday, August 10: Family Flicks on the Promenade - "Toy Story" (G)

Brace yourself to stomach in one sitting, Radio Disney's gratis pre-show entertainment and complimentary accessory happenings at 6:00 p.m. followed by "Toy Story" beginning at dusk.

4.Saturday, August 13 to Sunday, August 21: 71st Annual Nisei Week
Japanese Festival
Who were the Nisei? Originating from 1940's World War II hysteria-drenched America, Nisei - "second generation" and racially of the Orient - were Japanese-American citizens with immigrant parents. Accompanying 2011's 71st Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival are a rainbow of cultural events, Grand Parade, Coronation Ball, Competitive Games including but not limited to the Gyoza Eating Championship, Awards Dinner and Ondo (Community Dance Celebration) and Closing Ceremony.

8. Through Saturday, August 13: "1776" performances at 8:00 p.m., Thursday to Friday, 3:00 and 8:00 p.m., Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
Broadly historically based on the events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence, "1776" highlights and partially fictionalizes John Adams' efforts to persuade his colleagues to vote for American independence and to effectively sign the document.

9. Friday, August 19: Fusion Friday - Island Style Grand Finale from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Commemorate and wrap up summer's denouement by garbing in recommended Asian-inspired or cocktail apparel and partaking in jollification and merrymaking alongside accompanying dance performances, shave ice, classic island songs, thirst-quenching drinks, and delectable treats from food trucks. Pacific Asia Museum members free, $15 non-members.

10. Friday, August 26: Dance Downtown
Plagued and vexed by two left feet? Fear no more - familiarize yourself with and bone up on how to dance Zydeco-style under the moonlight with live music and an on-site DJ accompanied by beginner dance lessons sprinkled throughout the night. No experience is necessary for good-natured merriment. Come prepared to boogie under the open expanse of the nighttime sky.

11. Through Wednesday, August 31: Civic Center Library Book and Toy Donation Event
Persons who donate a book or new toy to the Civic Center Library, through Wednesday, August 31, will receive a coupon for a Free Shave Ice compliments of Mayor Yamauchi. Toys will be given to needy children and books will be used in the library's collection or sold to provide funds for library materials and programs.
12. Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 17: $1 Family Film Festival starting

For the fourth year in a row, Yonemoto Physical Therapy is proudly sponsoring and endorsing Alhambra Renaissance Theater's summer family film festival, Summer Movie Express. First come, first served seating arrangement due to limited theater seating capacity.
