Monterey Park, Jan. 22, 2012 -- Montebello School Board Member Ed Chau, Democratic candidate for the 49th Assembly District, received the endorsement of local Democrats at a conference held at the local city hall. This endorsement recommendation will be ratified on the consent calendar by the California Democratic Party at the upcoming Democratic Convention the weekend of February 11-12. "I am honored to have received this massive show of early support from my fellow Democrats," said Chau. "My parents came to this country with nothing and worked hard to give me opportunities. I will continue to give back to this district and fight to make sure that everybody can achieve the American Dream." Chau defeated Alhambra Mayor Luis Ayala and El Monte School Board member John Tran. Chau received 35 votes, Ayala, 4 votes and Tran, 0 votes, according to reports. Chau, a practicing attorney has gotten strong backing by Congresswoman Judy Chu and Assembly Mike Eng, who currently holds the seat.
