SAN GABRIEL – April 6, 2012 – The 77-year-old cross and figure of Jesus Christ on the crucifix that was knocked down and damaged by a December 2011 windstorm was rededicated an unveiled today at the San Gabriel Mission.
Last December 1, branches from a large 70-foot eucalyptus tree fell and broke the cross and crucifix memorial. The cross is new and the original crucifix dedicated on Good Friday 1935 has been repaired with 150 hours of expert care and work.
San Gabriel Mission was founded on Sept. 8, 1771 as the fourth oldest of 21 missions in California.
