Monterey Park Councilman Mitchell Ing has thrown his hat into the ring as a candidate for the 49th District Assembly District Seat.
Ing, a Democrat, is seeking to replace Assemblyman Mike Eng who is termed out. Other candidates seeking the seat are Republican Matthew Lin, a doctor and Democrat Edwin Chau, an attorney.
The 49th Assembly District now includes communities from Alhambra and Monterey Park on the west, North El Monte and Arcadia on the east, San Marino and Arcadia on the north and Monterey Park and South San Gabriel on the south.
Ing has been serving on the Monterey Park City Council since 2007. He previously served city treasurer.
A banker, he is involved in several volunteer activities including the Pasadena Tournament of Roses. He is married to Gloria Ing, an attorney. They have two children, Chantal and Derek.
