UPDATE: Service Set for Marie Purvis, Former Councilwoman PDF Print E-mail

PurvisRGBWebVersFuneral services are scheduled  for Marie Purvis, former Monterey Park Council woman who passed away, Saturday, September 26, after a lengthy illness.

 

Her life will be celebrated at services planned on Saturday, Oct. 10, 9 a.m. at the Rose Hills Chapel located at 550 E. Main St. in Alhambra. Viewing will beheld at 9 a.m. followed by a "celebration of her life" at 10 a.m.

Following the service she will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery.

Purvis had been a resident of Monterey Park for nearly 54 years and had operated a custom framing and art gallery for more than 26 years until she moved to Upland a few years ago.

Four children survive her: Arthur, Robert, Leonard and Lisa, as well as four grand daughters, Alex, Catalina, Hailey and Logan.
Purvis served in many community organizations during her years in Monterey Park. She was elected to the city council in 1990 and re-elected in 1994, serving as mayor twice.

She also served on the city’s Design Review Board and was past president and board member of the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce. She was also a past president of the Opti-Mrs. Optimist Club and past president of the MERCI Auxiliary.
She was also credited for founding the city’s first Independence Day cerebration in 1986.

She was born in Boston, Massachusetts and graduated from Montebello High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Woodbury University.
