AAUW Awards Scholarships for Science, Math Camp

  • By David Barron

Students Head for Whittier College

Six 7th grade girls from schools in Monterey Park, Montebello, and East LA will attend  Tech Trek Science and Math Camp at Whittier College August 7 through 13.

The Montebello-Monterey Park Satellite Branch of AAUW Alhambra San Gabriel funds $750 of the $800 for each girl’s scholarship to camp. Members worked diligently to gather generous contributions from local area groups, as well as from members and friends. They also volunteered to staff the Pasadena Showcase House, the annual benefit for Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts.
Local groups that contribute to the Tech Trek scholarships include: the Eastside Optimist Club, Soroptimist International of Monterey Park/Rosemead, and the Monterey Park  Woman’s Club.  A luncheon will be held in the Fall to thank our donors and to hear about the girls’ Tech Trek experience.
AAUW has 100,000 members nation-wide. The organization is committed to supporting a promising future for women and girls, and to providing a powerful voice to our legislators. We invite you to join us, take positive action for women and girls and strengthen your voice. Please call Jackie Fisher at 626-325-3372 for more information.
