Donut Shops Still Rule

  • By David Barron

While tourists and westsiders come to Monterey Park for Dim Sum, thousands of local folks trek to three local doughnut shops that provide a huge variety of freshly made round, square and long confection for breakfast, business meetings, or just to satisfy a yearning.

That happens everyday, not just on National Doughnut Day -- today, June 5, 2015.

By one expert's estimate, several thousand doughnuts are sold and eaten every day from the revered Pronto Donut on East Garvey Avenue at Moore Street; Williams at Garfield and Newmark Avenues; and JJ's Donuts at Garfield and Riggin Streets.

Besides doughnuts, the shops provide a variety of other food products such as egg sandwiches, hamburgers, and Asian food delicacies to satisfy the hunger pangs of local residents. While they are there, they also buy a cup of coffee, orange juice or their favorite soft drink.

So drop by any of the three shops and pick up a couple of your favorite doughnut types.
