Heavy Rainfall Causes Power Outages in West San Gabriel Valley

San Gabriel - March 26/12 -- Nearly an inch of rain fell on West San Gabriel Valley communities on Sunday and briefly resulted in flooded local streets and scattered power outages.

As predicted by weather forcasters, the heaviest part of the storm fell Sunday afternoon with torrential strength, soaking the area with much needed rainfall. More than an inch of rain fell in the foothills and higher elevations experieced snow.


Traffic signals were out in many locations in several cities, including Monterey Park where traffic was snarled on Atlantic Boulevard, north and south of Garvey Avenue.

Scattered power outages occured in many locations. A power outage shut down the AMC Theater at the Atlantic Times Square causing movie-goers to be evacuated. Nearby, the Ralphs Market was also without power. The city Library on Ramona Boulevard also experienced a power outage on Sunday afternnoon.

Rain is expected to continue through Monday.
