Alhambra School District Appoints Laura Tellez-Gagliano, New District Superintendent

ALHAMBRA - Alhambra Unified School District has appointed Laura Tellez-Gagliano as its new superintendent. She will replace Donna Perez, who will retire Aug. 31, completing 42 years with the District.

Tellez is currently assistant superintendent of human resources. She will be receiving a salary package of $203,500 in a four-year contract that she signed with the District. The appointment was publicly approved by the school board at the July 17 meeting.
In addition to her salary, Tellez will receive an automobile allowance of $700 per month, $150,000 life insurance coverage and lifetime medical benefits.

According to published press reports, retiring Perez had an annual base salary of $207,288.

Tellez has a doctorate in organizational leadership from University of La Verne. She began her education career as a teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She also worked as a teacher and administrator in the Garvey School District before moving to the Alhambra district position of assistant superintendent of business services in 2003.

Alhambra Unified serves the city of Alhambra, most of Monterey Park, and parts of the cities of San Gabriel and Rosemead. District headquarters are located at 1515 West Mission Road in Alhambra.

The district has three high schools - Alhambra, San Gabriel and Mark Keppel - and 13 kindergarten through eighth grade schools.
