Alhambra Pair Arrested for Pointing Lazer at Police Helicopter

Alhambra police arrested two suspects for obstructing an aircraft with a laser beam and various drug and fraud charges on Monday night May 6. Alhambra Police Department units were checking a burglar alarm off at a business on West Main Street. Pasadena Police Department Helicopter “PD-1” was also on scene assisting the Alhambra Police Department ground units.

While the helicopter was in the area, a suspect pointed a laser light at the helicopter several times in violation of California Penal Code Section 247.5. The helicopter pilot and his onboard observer directed Alhambra Police Department ground units to the 600 block of South Electric Ave.

Several minutes later, Alhambra officers made contact with two suspects in the backyard of a home located in the 600 block of South Electric. One of the suspects that were detained was on parole. A search of the location revealed a laser pointer, drug paraphernalia and evidence of credit card fraud, police said.

The two suspects are identified as: Joel Reyna, a 30 year old resident of Alhambra and Aram Yashu, a 32 year old resident of Alhambra. Both men are being held at the Alhambra Police Department in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Police do not believe the two suspects had any connection to the original call of a burglar alarm in the area.
