  • By David Barron

ALHAMBRA: Illegal fireworks and ammunition were discovered by police after a routine traffic stop earlier this week. On Tuesday, June 25th, at approximately 7 pm, Alhambra Police Officers stopped a vehicle in the area of Fremont and Mission for a minor Vehicle Code violation.

The car was driven by a convicted felon identified as Manuel Alex Ortiz. Inside of the vehicle, officers found live ammunition, which constitutes a felony pursuant to section 30305(a) (1) of the Penal Code (convicted felon in possession of ammunition), police, reported.

A follow up investigation by Alhambra Officers led them to a nearby residence where a stolen firearm, one-fourth pound of cocaine and more than 1000 pounds of illegal fireworks were found.

The Alhambra Fire Department was called for assistance and safely removed the illegal fireworks.
Mr. Ortiz posted bond and was released on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. His next court date is scheduled for July 29, 2013
