Father Of Murdered Dodger Fan From Alhambra

ALHAMBRA – The father of a Dodgers fan killed in San Francisco on Wednesday night following a Dodgers-Giants game lives in Alhambra and has worked security at Dodger Stadium, according to multiple published reports.
Robert Preece’s son Jonathan Denver, 24, was reportedly with his father, brother and two others near AT&T Park when he was stabbed to death, according to multiple published reports.
Denver, who was decked out in Dodger blue, got into a verbal altercation with some Giants fans, who were leaving a nightclub, the reports said. Denver left the stadium during the eighth inning of a 6-4 Giants victory.
Michael Montgomery, 21, of Lodi was arrested on suspicion of homicide in the stabbing. Another unidentified person was also taken into custody, the reports said.
Denver was born in Los Angeles County but was living in Fort Bragg, a city about 170 miles north of San Francisco, according to public records. He and his brother came to San Francisco to attend the game with their father, the reports said, adding the group had left a bar around 11:30 p.m. when an argument broke out about the teams with another group, with one of that group’s members wearing a Giants hat.
San Francisco police said in a published report that no one at first was seriously injured in the fight. However, a second fight started and the stabbing then took place.
The killing comes just two and a half years after the beating of a Giants fan at Dodger Stadium. Bryan Stow, a Northern California paramedic and Giants fan suffered a traumatic brain injury after two men dressed in Dodgers gear attacked him following the teams' March 31, 2011, game at Dodger Stadium.
Two Dodgers fans are awaiting trial on charges in the Stow beating, which sparked outrage and brought stadium security changes around the state and country, the report said.
The Giants observed a moment of silence in Denver’s memory at Thursday night’s game. Police added they would increase security in and around the ballpark, the reports said.
