SAN GABRIEL VALLEY -- Local cities will mark the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S. with memorial services on Wednesday, September 11, the 12th anniversary of the event.
Monterey Park will observe the event at 8:30 a.m. with patriotic activities including the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of the National Anthem. Paticipating will be local officials and members of the American Legion Post 397. The ringing of the fire bell will salute the nearly 3000 people who died in the attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania.
Rosemead will mark the event at 12 noon at the city's September 11th Memorial in the civic center at 8838 E. Valley Blvd. The ceremony will include flag raising and wreath laying ceremonies and playing of taps. This is the fifth year that Rosemead has utilized its memorial site that includes an actual steel beam from the World Trade Center.
San Gabriel Firefighters will host the 9-11 memorial ceremonies at the City Fire Station Headquarters at 1303 S. Del Mar Avenue. Events will begin at 6:30 a.m. and conclude at aobut 8:30 a.m.
