The first of two predicted heavy rain storms began arriving Thursday night (2-27) in Monterey Park, Alhambra and Rosemead after making land in north Los Angeles County. Local cities have begun getting ready for potential localized flooding in streets and channels and by providing sand bag materials and tarps for hillsides for residents.
In Monterey Park, stock piles of bags, and plastic tarps to cover sensitive hillsides are now available for local residents. Sand and unfilled bags area available at the city yard located on Alhambra Avenue, just next to Garvey Ranch Park. Sand and bags are also available at Fire Station 1 at 350 West Newmark Ave., next to city hall. A nominal charge of 50 cents is required for each bag.
San Gabriel City also has sand bags available at the City Yar located at 121 W. Mission Road. After hours, sandbags will be available at the South Fire Station 1303 So. Del Mar Ave.
Rolls of plastic sheeting, each 20 feet x 100 ft. are available from the Monterey Park City Yard located at 751 Alhambra Ave. at a cost of $55 per roll, with a limit of two rolls. The Yard is open Monday through Thursday, 6:30 am. to 3 p.m.
