Serbian Cathedral Hosts Fundraiser for Balkan Flooding Victims

In response to the disastrous record flooding and suffering of thousands of families in Balkan region of Europe, Saint Steven’s Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Alhambra will host a special public humanitarian relief rvent on Sunday, June 22. The event will be held at Saint Steven’s Cathedral, 1621 West Garvey Ave., Alhambra.

The event is being held in conjunction with International Orthodox Christian Charities, (IOCC). Victims of the natural disaster involve famiies inSerbia, Republika Srpska, Bosnia, Herzegovina and countries located in Eastern Europe.
Event honorary hosts will be Sasha Alexander from the popular TV show Rizzoli & Isles and husband, writer/director, Edoardo Ponti, with other celebrities participating, according to Sanja Pearce, Church volunteer and Benefit Committee member.
Keynote speaker will be Mark Gruin, IOCC Director of Strategic Initiatives who is currently in Serbia overseeing the I.O.C.C. relief efforts in the region.
The floods have left dozens dead and thousands homeless and many more stranded in Serbia and Bosnia. The Nikola Tesla power plant, which provides roughly half of the country's electricity, is in the path of a flood wave created by the heaviest rains to hit the region in 120 years. In Bosnia, evacuees are being placed in temporarily shelters like military barracks, but many more await help in areas that are not accessible yet.
