81-year-old Leads Church Marathon Runners

  • By David Barron

A running/walking team from Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Monterey Park featured an 81-year-old runner who completed the 27-mile run L.A. Marathon recently.

The runner was Henry Lou, 81 who finished fifth in his age division and excited members of the huge World Vision Team. He was among 30 church members who ran in the Marathon.
The Trinity Church team ran as part of the Team World Vision Los Angeles to raise funds for its Clean Water for Africa project. Fred Sornoso, spokesman for the group said that each $50.00 they are able to raise provides clean water for one African child for life.
Trinity church has raised close to $30,000 (600 kids) for this project and Team World Vision L.A. has raised close to $500,000 (10,000 kids).
World Vision is dedicated to eliminating this situation by digging wells for these African villages.
“We are still accepting donations if anyone would like to help us with this project. Checks can be made payable to World Vision and sent to Trinity Church” Sornoso said in an email. Donations may be sent to the following address:
Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 1951 S. Garfield Ave., Monterey Park, CA 91754. Information can be obtained by calling 323-890-4541.
Sornoso said donors can also make online donations at www.trinitychurchmp.com/marathon
