Are You Prepared for An Earthquake or a Disaster?

If a serious earthquakes happens and your natural gas is leaking do you know where you turn it off? How about CPR? If you took a CPR class several years ago, you may not be aware of the new procedures.

To help local residents prepare for a serious earthquake and emergency, a preparedness day will be held Saturday, Jan. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the city fire station at 350 W. Newmark Ave. next to City Hall.

Andrew Yam, a member of the sponsoring Community Participation Commission, announced at a city council meeting that people will be able to learn a number of emergency steps, thanks to instructors from the city fire department which is a co-sponsor.

The program will include learning how to shut off gas and electricity in the home and sidewalk CPR. Basic first aid advice will be provide. If you have never used a fire extinguisher, you be able to learn with a hand-on demonstration.
