City council Monday, appointed David Saucedo as the city's new police chief. He is currently a police captain in Inglewood.Tha appointment was approved with a 3-2 vote. City council still has to discuss the new chief's salary and benefits. Saucedo's contract will be retroactive to January 30.
Saucedo replaces former chief Michael Taylor.
The city will remove a final segment of overhead power lines on Beverly Boulevard, clearing the entire street in the city. Cost of the project is estimated at $3.3 million, including nearly $2.7 million from Edison and nearly $600, 000 from other utilities as required by the California Public Utilities Commission.
The under grounding project will stretch from Fifth street to 300 feed east of Poplar Avenue. Power poles and lines have already been removed in previous projects on Beverly Boulevard from Montebello Boulevard to the western city limits.
City council will hold a public hearing on March 8 before the project receives final approval.
