Hundreds of locals will walk on Saturday, August 30 he historic nine-mile route that Los Angeles’ founding families, Los Pobladores, took in 1781 from the San Gabriel Mission to El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument at Olvera Street.

The “Celebrate Our Heritage Walk to L.A.” will commemorate the City of Los Angeles’ 236th birthday, and celebrate the San Gabriel Mission as the birthplace of Los Angeles. The event begins at 6 a.m. with registration and a program at the San Gabriel Missiion. The walk begins at 6:30 a.m.

Once everyone reaches downtown Los Angeles, there will be a ceremony plus special presentations at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument. Participants can take a free bus ride back to San Gabriel after the event. Organizers say walkers will walk on the sidewalk and follow traffic laws because there will be no road closures for this event.)
