Panda Sets $1million in Quake Relief

  • By SGV Journal

The China Earthquake Relief Fund and the Mayanmar cyclone victims got a big boost of support from Panda Restaurant Group, (PRG), based in San Gabriel Valley, which today committed $1 million for relief efforts organized by the American Red Cross China Relief Effort and the Tzu Chi Foundation.

"We are extremely saddened by the devastation and lives lost in China and Myanmar," said Peggy Cherng, co-chairman of Panda Restaurant Group, Inc. (PRG), the parent company for Panda Express. "Not only is the world community affected by these disasters, but many of our associates have experienced very personal tragedies as a result, so we are deeply committed to supporting the relief efforts."

Another $100,000 will be raised by PRG’s 18,000 associates nation-wide, which includes a $100,000 matching amount to bring the company’s total contribution to $1 million, officials announced here.
The announcement will be formally made (Tuesday, May 20) by Cherng, co-chair of the Panda Restaurant Group, LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Ben Green, CEO, American Red Cross San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Chapter.
Between May 19 and June 1, when a Panda Express guest orders a 3-entrée plate, or a Panda Inn guest orders any item from the Chef's Creations Menu, Panda Restaurant Group will donate $1 from the sale to the China Earthquake Relief Fund.
Panda Restaurant Group has its corporate headquarters in Rosemead and is recognized for their support of community non-profits agencies and schools in the West San Gabriel Valley.
