EAST LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies have arrested an East Los Angeles man on Wednesday who was wanted for allegedly carjacking, kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman, sheriff's officials said.
Miguel Angel Campos, 28, was taken into custody for an Oct. 26 incident that began in Whittier. Campos allegedly approached the victim, who was waiting for her brother in her parked car at a store, and asked her for money, sheriff's officials said.
Campos then became angry, allegedly simulated that he had a handgun and told her to unlock the driver's side door, which she did as she feared for her safety, sheriff's officials said.
Once in the car Campos allegedly took control of the vehicle, forced the victim to the passenger seat and while driving, threatened to stab her and proceeded to sexually assault her, sheriff's officials said.
As Campos drove onto northbound Interstate 710 at Olympic Boulevard, the victim was able to jump out as the car was accelerating. She did suffer some moderate injuries and was helped by a passing motorist, sheriff's officials said.
Campos allegedly continued onto I-710, exiting at Third Street where he lost control of the car and hit a parked vehicle. He then fled on foot, sheriff's officials said.
Campos was arrested at his home without incident and sheriff's officials said they recovered more related evidence there.
Campos was later identified by the victim as the person who kidnapped and assaulted her, sheriff's officials said.
