  • By David Barron

A Monterey Park resident who taught at Garfield Elementary School in Alhambra has pleaded not guilty at a recent hearing to having sexual relations with a former student.

ParkThe charges allege that Jeffrery Hideki Yoshitake, 43, had a seven  year relationship with the victim which began when she was 15 years of age, according to Monterey Park Police. Police believe there is only one victim involved in the alleged molestations. According to the felony complaint the incident occurred  between April and August of 2005.

Yoshitake is accused of five counts of lewd acts upon a child and if found guilty could be sentenced to five years in state prison.

However, the alleged victim had previously filed complaint on two other occasions regarding alleged sexual abuses cases. Yoshitake's attorney asked for copies of the cases, one of which was determined to be unfounded according to press reports

Judge Shaia Sabat has set June 2 as the date of a preliminary hearing in Alhambra Court.
