Two incumbents and one new councilman were elected in today's (3/3/15) balloting for the Monterey Park City Council race.
The leading vote-getter was veteran Councilman Mitchell Ing who was re-elected with 25.5% of the vote or 2,847 votes in the preliminary vote count. Coming in second was Councilwoman Teresa Real Sebastian with 2,643 votes or 23.6% of the ballots cast. Newcomer Stephen Lam was also elected with 2,346 votes or 21% of the votes cast.
Councilman Anthony Wong was in fourth place and defeated in his bid for a third term. He garnered 2,182 votes or 19.5%. In fifth place was Delario Robinson and Joe Ray Avila was in sixth place.
Preliminary results indicated a voter turnout of about 16.6% out of the total citywide registration of 27,474. The results released on election night were preliminary because there are still provisional votes and vote-by-mail ballots left at Polling Places that remain to be counted.
