El Encanto Celebrates USO Day

A celebration of the historic El Encanto building service as a USO Center during World War II will be held Saturday, June 10 starting with ceremonies at 11 a.m. The free event is sponsored by the Greater Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce and the office of State Senator Ed Hernandez.

Colors will be presented by the American Legion Post 987 anda flag presentation by a military unit of the U.S. Army.
The celebration coincides with the 242nd anniversary of the formation of the United States Army.
An exhibit of military uniforms and equipment will available for viewing by visitors.
The free events will include refreshments and snacks. The event will include a exhibits, panel of speakers and information on military and veteran’s benefits. Doors to the event will open at 10 a.m. 
The historic El Encanto building at 700 El Mercado Ave. in Monterey Park has hosted a variety of services over the years since it was constructed in 1929. At first El Encanto was a real estate sales office, a restaurant, a residence and a USO Hospitality center for military servicemen on leave.
