After hearing a lengthy presentation on the long-term financial health of the city, the Rosemead City Council acted on a handful of items at its Tuesday night meeting.
Midnight is the new time residents must take in their garbage cans on garbage pickup days, the council decided unanimously. The originally proposed time was 10 p.m.
This is part of the guidelines for garbage and rubbish disposal as the council has entered into a new solid waste management agreement with Consolidated Disposal Services. The agreement will go into effect on Aug. 1.
In other council news, the body will hold a public hearing sometime during the next fiscal year on its annual action plan regarding how the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will allocate community development block grants and other funding awards.
The council also voted unanimously to approve its consent calendar, which consisted of awarding an environmental consulting services contract to the company Gerard Yang in regards to the Garvey/Del Mar Mixed-Use Project.
In addition to that project, the council approved the contract for the Rosemead Community Recreation Center with California Averland Construction for more than $600,000 to do extensive renovations and updates to the interior of the facility, including the addition of classroom space, a computer lab, offices and new paint and flooring throughout.
The council closed the meeting hearing status reports on the Walnut Grove Avenue Safe Routes to Schools Grant Program and the Rosemead Boulevard Highway Safety Improvement Program.
