Former Rosemead Councilman Sentenced

Former Rosemead Councilman John Tran was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for charges arising from bribery allegations.

In federal court early this week, Tran apologized to the court and his supporters.

Late last year Tran pleaded guilty to to two felonies involving attempted witness tampering and making a false statement to a federal agent. He had been charged originally with a bribery scheme. A developer reported to the FBI that she had paid Tran $38,000 for his support in a development project. The project was never approved by the city council.

Tran was elected to city council in 2005. He was mayor from 2007 to 2009. He was not re-elected in 2009
