Volunteers Invited to Rosemead Civic Pride Day

City of Rosemead is seeking volunteers for the First Annual Rosemead Civic Pride Day on Saturday,  April 30, 2016, between 8:00 a.m. and noon. This event is designed to bring the community together, while making improvements in the City of Rosemead, said Pat Piatt, senior management analyst for the city.

The event will take place at the Savannah Memorial Park Cemetery, a State Historic Landmark,
which is an important part of San Gabriel Valley’s history, Piatt said. "As you walk through the cemetery you will notice that names on some of the tombstones are also street names that are found throughout the valley, as many of the San Gabriel Valley’s founders are buried in the Savannah Memorial Park Cemetery. This cemetery also holds graves of civil war veterans and even a veteran of the war of 1812."

The cemetery is undergoing a much needed update and the El Monte Savannah Cemetery Association, a registered non-profit, has hired 175 goats to remove all the lawn and weeds. The grass will be replaced with mulch, drought tolerant plants, and no-mow grass (for comfortable seating during movie nights).

More information about joining the Rosemead Beautification Committee in this event is available from Piatt at (626) 569-2102 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
