San Gabriel police arrested a male suspect after a pursuit that included city streets and freeways at high speeds.
Police reported at a approximately 11:25 a.m. on April 12, 2017, they received a call regarding an attempt assault with a vehicle against a San Gabriel Police civilian employee.Subsequently, San Gabriel Police officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on the I-10 freeway at Rosemead Boulevard.

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" San Gabriel Hotel Revises Schedule

San Gabriel City has reported that demolition of existing buildings have begun on the site for the new Crowne Plaza Hotel, 221 E Valley Blvd.
The city said in its weekly newsletter that a revised schedule from the developer reports that shoring work will begin in July and construction on the foundation and the building should begin in October or November.

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" Ballot Recount Today In San Gabriel

L.A. County Registrar Recorder will recount ballots today in the close San Gabriel City Council election which occured March 8 (2/17). The ballots will be recounted at the Registrar-Recorder's headquarters in Norwal.

Denise Menchaca,who won the the third and last spot for the city council, led Mario De La Torre by only eight votes when the county certified the ballots. De La Torre requested and paid more than $3,000 for a recount. The recount is expected to be completed this afternoon.

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" MP Captain Named San Gabriel Police Chief

SAN GABRIEL, CA – After a months-long search, San Gabriel officials announced today that Eugene Harris, a 24-year law enforcement veteran, will be the city’s next Chief of Police.
Harris, 50, is a Southern California native and former United States Marine. Harris began his career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and joined the Monterey Park Police Department in 1993, where he served as captain for seven years.

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" Las Tunas Drive Paving Project Begins

The long awaited Las Tunas Drive repaving project is finally underway, smoothing over one of the city’s largest arterial streets. The $3 million project is the city’s largest street paving project in nearly a decade. The project will consist of repaving almost a mile of the nine lane road from Muscatel Avenue to San Gabriel Boulevard. Las Tunas Drive carries more than 30,000 cars every day.

class="gkFeaturedItemTitle" San Gabriel Police Chief to Retire

SAN GABRIEL, CA – Police Chief David A. Lawton announced this week that he will retire at the end of April after serving nearly 26 years as chief.
Lawton is the longest serving police chief in Los Angeles County and second longest serving chief currently in office in California. He has served a total of 38 years with the San Gabriel Police Department, starting at the department as a police officer in 1977.

San Gabriel is now accepting applications for several vacancies on the Planning Commission, Design Review Commission, Community Services Commission and Civil Service Commission.
The city commissions are an essential part of the San Gabriel government, and commissioners often have the first look at important issues that will ultimately go before the City Council.
