San Gabriel city officials are expected to ask voters to increase the city’s utility users tax from 6% to 8% at next Novembers General Election.
San Gabriel officialls will hold a press council on Wednesday, July 16, at 9:30 a.m. to announce the plans for the proposed increase in the utility tax.
The city reports it is facing difficult budget conditions with decreasing tax revenues and they predict that the state budgets cutbacks will also impact the city. A city fact sheet stated that they are facing an "ongoing $600,000 budget shortfall" that cannot be covered by existing city fund reserves. "These estimates are also based on the 2008-2009 State budget which is "not yet finalized," the fact sheet states.
