Easter Sunday Run Set At Mission

SAN GABRIEL - San Gabriel Mission’s First Annual Easter Morning Run, “The Run of St. John,” re-enacting the run of St. John to the empty tomb, will start at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday by the old mission church. Runners will go north to Lacy Park in San Marino and return to San Gabriel Mission where all runners will receive a free pancake breakfast and free gift, while supplies are available.

“Lacy Park was once Wilson Lake, which fed water to San Gabriel Mission and the surrounding area – by running there we recommit ourselves to new life,” said Fr. Bruce Wellems, pastor of San Gabriel Mission.

Runners are asked to register at San Gabriel Mission Gift Shop from March 26, through 28, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., or they can register between 6:45 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. the day of the race in front of mission’s gift shop at 427 South Junipero Serra Drive.  Runners also can print an entry form at www.sangabrielmission.org (click on museum) and fax it in. There is no fee to enter.

The running distance is approximately four miles round trip. Runners may park their cars for free at the mission parking lot or for free on nearby streets.

There will be an Easter sunrise mass at 6:30 a.m. at the mission.

More information is available on the registration form or by calling San Gabriel Mission at (626) 457-3048.
