While in the midst of a political battle over the seating of an elected counclman, City of San Gabriel will proceed with events marking the 100th anniversary of the city's incorporation.

The first event will be on Wednesday, April 24, involving the opening of a time capsule buried fifty years. ago. City officials, community leaders and many long-time residents wll participate in the noon time event.

Later that same day leading citizens will celebrate the City's 100th birthday with a dinner scheduled at exclusive San Gabriel Country Club. The affair will begin with a cocktail hour, followed by dinner and a special centennial program highlighting the city's history.

The program will be a multi-cultural event with Kim Baldonado, a Latina television news reporter, acting as mistress of ceremonies. Andrew Morales from the Gabrielino/Tongva nation will give the blessing.

The centennial program will begin with the introduction of former mayor Richard Nichols and the city's four longest-living residents.

Ironically, Chin Ho Liao, who has been kept from the council he was elected to, will lead the audience in singing of "Happy Birthday," to San Gabriel.

Liao has not been installed on the city council despite being declared one of the winners of the March 5 election because of allegations that he does not reside in the city. A city council hearing is schedule on Thursday, April 25 on the allegations.
