San Gabriel City Council today(May 6, 2013) voted (3-1) to seat Chin Ho Laio on the City Council after more than three days of court like hearings in the council chambers.
Laio is expected to be sworn into office at the regular council meeting scheduled Tuesday night.
The city council had refused to adopt a resolution a month ago after he was elected into office at the March 5 city election. One person had complained that he was not a legal resident of the city.The council held three days of hearings and then met again Monday afternoon to announce their decision.
Last Friday, a group of state and county officials held a press conference demanding that Liao be seated in his city council post.
Voting in favor of the motion to seat Laio were Mayor Kevin Sawkins, and Council persons Juli Constanzo and Jason Pu. Voting no was Council member John Harrington.
