San Gabriel Mission Collects Food for Needy

San Gabriel – San Gabriel Mission Christian Service continues its program of collecting food for Thanksgiving baskets that will be given to people in need this year.

 Canned or boxed food especially needed is mashed potatoes, corn, green beans, peas, fruit cocktail, macaroni and cheese, turkey stuffing, cranberry sauce, spaghetti and sauce, yams, tuna, soups, beans and one-pound bags of rice or other nonperishable food.

Food can be brought to mission’s Christian Service Center at 254 S. Santa Anita Ave., San Gabriel (on the west side of the mission complex just south of Broadway) between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., no later than Friday, Nov. 22. 

Donations also can be delivered to the mission rectory office at 428 S. Mission Dr., San Gabriel, on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
People in need should register at mission’s Christian Service Center through Nov. 20.
Distribution of the food baskets will be on Nov. 26, for those people already registered in advance.

San Gabriel Mission was founded on Sept. 8, 1771 as the fourth oldest of 21 missions
in California. The 242-year-old Roman Catholic parish has more than 50 active groups with a language in either English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog (Filipino) or Chinese.
