Two candidates for the San Gabriel City Council remain tied after all the votes from the Tuesday, March 3 election have been counted, the city election officials announced yesterday (3/10/15).
After the remaining 413 provisional and vote-by-mail ballots were counted incumbent Juli Costanzo and challenger Denese Menchaca were tied with 1,276 votes each.
Before the final leftover ballots were counted, Costanzo was ahead by 23 votes. The city had officially planned to declare a winner by March 17 and install the council candidate with the highest votes. Incumbent council person John Harrington was the lead vote getter in the three- person vote and is secure in his re-election.
The City Clerks office is seeking advices from its attorneys and consultants on the next step in the process which could result in the flip of a coin to determin the winner.
