  • By SGV Journal

The San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre will present Broadway at the Playhouse on Saturday, May 3 at 8:00 p.m. in the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. Musical theatre favorite Danny Michaels will emcee as Will Rogers, one of his most famous onstage personas, and take the audience on a fast-paced tour of his favorite Broadway shows.

Other performers include Michael G. Hawkins, John Holder, Danette Holland, Chanlon Jay Kaufman, Debbie Prutsman, Victoria Strong, Anne Frasier Thomas, Ann Winkowski and Adam Wylie. This star-studded list of talent features a rich history of performing on Broadway, National Tours and in major regional theatres. Wylie recently completed one year as Boc in the Los Angeles production of Wicked. Hawkins toured with Cathy Rigby in her most recent National Tour of Peter Pan. Strong was seen in the role of Mother in the National Tour of Ragtime, which she has reprised five times for regional theatres throughout the Southland.

Broadway at the Playhouse will offer selections from such diverse productions as Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Producers, Wicked and Miss Saigon. The show is directed by Bill Shaw, Artistic Director of the San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre.

Musical direction is provided by Richard Allen and choreography by Rikki Lugo.
This is one of many planned benefit shows designed to provide needed funds for the new producing company, whose goal it is to present a yearly season of Broadway musicals at San Gabriel’s historic Mission Playhouse. Formerly known as the San Gabriel Civic Auditorium and considered to be the Crown Jewel of San Gabriel’s Mission District, this stunning performing arts center has been the home of San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre for the past three years.

Tickets for Broadway at the Playhouse are $20, $30, $40 and $60. For more information or to purchase tickets, call the box office at (626) 308-2868. To learn more about San Gabriel Valley Music Theatre, visit
