Former Schurr Coach Pleads 'No Contest'

  • By David Barron

A former tennis coach at a local high school was convicted of having sex with an underage female. Timothy Van Phuoc Dang, 27, pleaded no contest and was sentenced to four years in state prison and ordered to register as a lifetime sex offender.
County prosecutors alleged that Dang, a tennis coach at Schurr High, had a sexual relationship with the girl from October 2014 to July 2016. Police reported that the victim was 14 years of age when the relationship started. Dang was arrested after the victim reported the matter to a school resource officer. Dan was fired after the allegations were revealed.
