MONTEREY PARK - Two new businesses at the Casuda Canyon Plaza located at 1790 West Garvey Avenue celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony witnessed by city and chamber of commerce officials.
Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce recently elected and installed new members of the Board of Directors. The Chamber also retired three board members who did not seek re-election.
City of Monterey Park may have to pay $16 million to the developer of the Atlantic-Times Square project because the state has ruled that a city promise made the shopping center a "public works" project.
Two key events will be held in Monterey Park this week beginning with a special hearing Monday, Dec. 8 for cell phone towers proposed for two locations, and business workshops on Dec. 15 & 16 on doing business in Monterey Park. Please continue to read about these two events.

Workshop in Spanish - Tuesday September 23, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Friends Room.

The Library will present two programs in Spanish on business and home ownership strategies. The first program on “How to Get a Small Business Loan” will be Monday, September 22, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Friends Room.
The presenter who is from Wells Fargo of Monterey Park will discuss the steps involved in acquiring a loan for a small or medium-sized business. The second program on “First-Time Home Buying” will be Tuesday September 23, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Friends Room. All programs will be in Spanish, free and open to the public.
On Monday, September 22, at 7 p.m., the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library will present a Business and Investment Workshop, entitled “How to Get a Small Business Loan.” This program will be in English and Mandarin Chinese and take place in the Friends Room of the library. This program is free to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Monterey Park City Council approved a street sweeping contract for Athens Services by a vote of 3-2 with Mayor Frank Venti and Mayor Pro Tem voting no. The Athens bid of $25,750 a month. The bidwas the lowest of four bids for street sweeping.
