Barbaras_WilliamsRGBMonterey Park City Librarian Dr. Barbara Williams is leaving the city position to take on a bigger job in Riverside County.

Williams will be county librarian in charge of 33 library branches throughout the cities in Riverside County. She announced her move last week and will be leaving the city service on December 23.

In Monterey Park, Williams was in charge of the city's Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library, a 50,000 square foot facility that gets thousands of visitors each day that it is open.

During her time at the helm, Williams saw library hours reduced as the city faces tough economic times. Many part-time library employees were layed off during the process, forcing the library to close on Fridays and Saturdays, two of the busiest days at the library.

Williams was credited with updating the library collection, expanding library outreach efforts to various groups in the city and improving morale of library staffers which declined after layoffs.
