Fourteen Boy Scouts from Troop #329 based at Brightwood Elementary School and their Troop Advisor Jon Hum worked on two of the hottest days early this week to collect trash, bottles, and other litter and replant new landscaping materials. Leading the group was project coordinator Larry Sullivan, a City Planning Commissioner who who volunteered to head the project of cleaning up the Monterey Park side of the New Avenue on and off ramps. City Public Works staff assisted by doing clean-up work, providing tools and two large trucks to collect the debris. "With Cal Trans providing over 100 plants and the City Park staff providing the tools, bags and trucks, the Scouts spent two full days trimming bushes and trees and planting new foliage on the west side of the (New Avenue) ramp," said Sullivan. "The Scouts efforts are another step in helping to beautify Monterey Park through a program of Volunteers." He said the next major volunteer project will be to finish off the recent clean up of the Pomona Avenue. - 60 Freeway cleanup which began last month. "We'll be working with the city's staff and Cal Trans support for beautification of the parkway and hillside along Pomona Avenue.
