Monterey Park -- City Council will have a special meeting, Wednesday, Jan 11, at 5:30 p.m. to discuss official city action regarding the abolishment of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) by the State Legislature and the State Supreme Court. The council meeting will be held in the second floor of the City Hall in Conference Room 266. The first part of the meeting is to discuss a turnover of some CRA duties to the City willl be open to the public. The second part, involving negotiations with several city unions, anticipated litigation and property negotiations will be in closed session. Monterey Park City Manager Paul Talbot recently told the press that the city may have to layoff eight to 10 employees because the State is eliminating redevelopment agencies. The state legislature passed laws eliminating redeveopment agencies in cities and counties to gain the funds to cover the billion dollar shortball in the state budget.
