One Dead in Monterey Park Apartment Fire PDF Print E-mail

One person died and $50,000 damaged was caused by an apartment fire that occurred Monday morning (March 1, 2010) at 03:49 a.m. according the Monterey Park Fire Department.

The fire occurred at an apartment complex located in the 600 block of West Fernfield Avenue in south Monterey Park.

 

The Monterey Park Police department was first to arrive and reported one residenetial unit on the second floor well involved with fire.  The Police evacuated the residents from the adjacent units and reported the number to the first arriving Engine Company. The first arriving fire units made a quick initial attack and had a knockdown of the fire at 04:15.

Police did not identify the adult resident succumbed to the smoke from the fire.  The fire was extinguished with assistance from the Montebello, Alhambra, and South Pasadena Fire Departments.

No Firefighters or Police Officers were injured during this incident.  The neighboring residents displaced by the fire were housed by local family members. The three other units in the building sustained minor smoke and water damage.

Initial cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.  The total fire loss is being estimated at fifty thousand dollars for the structure and five thousand dollars for contents.
