| Woman Dies in Single Car Crash in Monterey Park |

One woman was killed and a man was badly injured late Thursday, in a single car crash on South Atlantic Boulevard, Monterey Park Police reported. The young woman was indentified as Jasmine Alexi Garcia, 19, of Los Angeles by the County Coroner, according to the Pasadena Star News. The male driver was taken to Los Angles-USC Medical Center. Police reported that on Thurday, March 11, 2010, at approximately 11:58 p.m, the Police Department Dispatch Center received two 911 calls regarding a single vehicle traffic collision in the 700 Block of South Atlantic Blvd. The Monterey Park Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene. Upon their arrival they discovered a 2007 Black Scion vehicle had collided with a tree and the occupants were trapped within the vehicle. The Monterey Park Fire Department utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extract the 19 year old Hispanic male driver and the 19 year old Hispanic female passenger from the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center -Intensive Care Unit for treatment of severe injuries. The passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedic personnel. "Our preliminary investigation reveals that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed south bound in the number two lane of S. Atlantic Blvd. when the driver lost control of the vehicle causing the vehicle to traverse all the lanes of traffic in an eastbound direction, " a police department press release stated. The vehicle then collided with a tree along the east sidewalk of the 700 block of S. Atlantic Blvd where the occupants became trapped. Police have not yet released the identity of the male drive. This incident is currently under investigation by the Monterey Park Police Department’s Traffic Bureau and the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office
