Long-time West Valley resident Erma Carter sed away peacefully July 1, 2009, after having a stroke the previous week, to be with her prince, her husband, Charles who preceded her last May.

She was born Erma Gamino in San Bernardino, May 3, 1921, where she lived until 1940. She then came to the Los Angeles area and has been a resident of Monterey Park since buying her first house in 1945.

She worked in Monterey Park at Young’s Restaurant and Star Market where she met Charles in 1963 and married the same year. After their marriage she worked with Charles in his business, Carter Construction on Monterey Pass Road, as his bookkeeper and secretary until retirement.
She had one son, Alfred Vargas, and Charles’ three children, Skip Carter, Toni Callen and Connie (Honey) Anderson.

She was very active in the Monterey Park Opti-Mrs Club, the  Historical Society and the Monterey Park Museum.

She traveled through out the world with Charles and enjoyed time at their cabin in Lake Arrowhead.

She enjoyed entertaining at their beautiful home where they lived for 46 years.

She will be missed by all and is survived by Al, Skip,Toni and Honey her children along with her two sisters Vera Sandoval, Val Castruito and her brother Augie Gamino.

She also is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
