Long time Monterey Park resident and civic volunteer Anna Gutierrez passed away at her home in Paso Robles, surrounded by her family, on September 30, 2015. She had succumbed to dementia/Alzheimer.  She was born in El Paso, TX on September 8, 1925 to Pedro Alvarado and Petra Lujan, both from Mexico. Before moving to Paso Robles in 2011 Anna was a resident of Monterey Park for over 50 years.

(Editor’s Note Roselyn Britt, a pioneer Monterey Park resident passed away recently. In her memory, we publish the following historical article prepared by Beryl Williams, curator of the city museum.)
     During the early years of the twentieth century, James Joseph Britt, father of the late Roselyn Brit, moved his family from Los Angeles to the community of Ramona Acres. The reason behind the move was to allow Mr. Britt to keep his horses on his own property. He was a participant in many local parades riding his English saddle horse with silver adornment. Mr. Britt also served as a Volunteer Deputy Marshal alongside L.H. Browning at the time of Monterey Park’s incorporation in 1916.
