Jean Scott, assistant director for parks and recreation, said the four-concert series got more popular as it went on with a healthy crowd on hand last Friday at Garvey Park as the retro 1960s rock and roll band "The Hypnotics" took the stage. "The attendance has gotten bigger," Scott said. "For our third concert series, we're very pleased with the numbers and we're hoping to close out the concert series with a nice crowd. We're anticipating a large crowd." Scott said while Rosemead Park had a higher attendance than either one of the Garvey Park concerts, she added it was nice to have the concerts in south Rosemead for a change. "Rosemead Park usually gets higher numbers, but the numbers are getting up there (at Garvey Park," she said. "The vendors are really satisfied with the revenue they're making off the consumers. They're very satisfied." With the fourth series slated for next year, Scott said the city will continue to change back and forth between venues. "There's two parks in the city and we really wanted to bring together both of our largest parks," Scott said. "I love the setting at Garvey Park with that slope in the middle. It's really nice. But people also like Rosemead Park. "It's our goal because this is one of the events we've been able to show off at Garvey Park. It's growing and we want to keep that momentum going." Other types of music featured in the series was classic rock and salsa Latin rhythm and blues, Scott said. (Shel Segal can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
