Insomniacs, police officers, early morning workers, people driving tipsy from a party and just plain folks will miss Norms Restaurant.

The 24-hour, seven-days a week coffee shop at Valley and Del Mar is now closed after serving thousands of customers for nearly three decade.

Larry Pamez ate at Norms, breakfast and dinner. He would share a meal with his wife and friends at Norms every week. Pamez is the pastor of the Bethel Temple located in Rosemead.

Now, he’ll have to go to Hollywood or to West Covina where new Norms are opening up. They’ll take with them their friends, Milton Martinez and daughter, Melonie who has been going to Norms, “Since I was a kid.”

Jaimie Notal, a Gabrielino High student was there with her mom for take-out food for the very last time. People would drive for miles for Norm’s famous steak’n eggs speciality breakfast, whipped up by kitchen crew and short order cooks.

Others would come for their gigantic hot fudge brownie ala mode. The huge corner parcel of land will be developed by a new owner who’s plans are uncertain at this time.

Original plans called for a “mixed use” development, but the poor economy may get in the way. San Gabriel City officials were not sure of the future of the key commercial land.

Curretnly, the city is working on a new master plan for the Valley Boulevard Commercial area.
