IRWINDALE - In commanding fashion, Ryan Partridge of Rancho Cucamonga finished first Saturday night at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in the final NASCAR King Taco Truck Series race of the season.
However, it wasn't enough as he lost the series championship to Connor Cantrell of Santa Clarita, who he was trailing by 40 points going in to the race. Cantrell won the previous four races.
Still, Partridge was just happy to win the final race of the year.
"It's sure nice to come away with that one at the end of the long season," Partridge said. "I give all the credit in the world to my team that didn't give up. We can hang our heads high knowing we did the best we could and fought tooth and nail to the end."
Partridge added while he isn't completely happy with second place, he isn't disappointed either.
"It's not optimal for me or my crew, but it's better than finishing further down the line," said Partridge, who won the event in 2010. "I know we did our best all the way through the season, hit some bumps along the way and always recovered to put ourselves in a position to win a championship up to the last moment."
