Rosemead High School's Girls Varsity Tennis Team traveled last week to El Monte High School to compete in the annual Mission Valley League Finals.Tournament to win all-league recognition as well as entry into the C.I.F. Southern Section Team and Individuals tournaments, announced Rosemead varsity Head Coach Gary Ward.
Two of Rosemead's doubles teams earned first and second place finishes. Jenny Ly and Joanne Gong, defeated an undefeated top-ranked Arroyo doubles team in the semi-finals and won second place, reported Ward. Winning first place in the tournament was Shirley Mach and Iris Wong, whom defeated El Monte's number one doubles team in the semi-finals, Ward stated.
Rosemead's Girls Varsity Team finished a close second place in Mission Valley League, said Ward.
Rosemead played in a C.I.F. Playoffs wild card match on Nov. 2, defeating visiting La Salle 17-1. On Nov. 3, Rosemead upset host Garden Grove High School forcing a tie 9-9 and then earned the victory based upon winning more games 73-70. Rosemead followed that with an 11-7 loss at Etiwanda on Nov. 6, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section playoffs.
CIF Southern Section Individuals Tournament begins Nov. 23.
